Information Need to Know

Aflatoxin B1
Aflatoxin B1 is an aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. It is a very potent carcinogen with a TD50 3.2 μg/kg/day in rats. This carcinogenic potency varies across species with some, such as rats and monkeys, seemingly much more susceptible than others. Aflatoxin B1 is a common contaminant in a variety of foods including peanuts, cottonseed meal, corn, and other grains;as well as animal feeds. Aflatoxin B1 is considered the most toxic aflatoxin and it is highly implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in humans.[citation needed] In animals, aflatoxin B1 has also been shown to be mutagenic,[9] teratogenic, and to cause immunosuppression. Therefore, there is great demand for aflatoxins research to develop suitable methods for their quantification, precise detection
and control to ensure the safety of consumers’ health

TEST PROCEDURE
* Grind a representative sample to the particle size of fine instant coffee (50% passes through a 20 mesh screen). Weigh out 0 g
ground portion of the sample into the centrifugal tube (15 mL).
* Add 2 mL of pure water and 8 mL of ethyl acetate into the tube. Shake for 10 min. (If emulsification appears, do a
centrifugation at 4000 rpm for 1 min.)
* Collect accurately 4 mL of supernatant (ethyl acetate layer) into a small container (beaker or tube). Dry the liquid by
blowing wind.
* Redissolve the residues in the small beaker with an amount of the provided assay diluent. (REF: Table )
* Take out the cassette from the foil pouch and place it horizontally.
Suck the liquid and drip 3 drops into the assay sample hole “S”. If the migration has not appeared after 30 seconds, add one more
